One of Journalism.co.uk’s trailblazing women in journalism, Sophia’s work focuses on transforming our information ecosystems for the better

Since becoming one of the UK’s first TikTok-native journalist stars, Sophia has gone on to create and innovate novel storytelling methods for journalists in the age of algorithms. In 2023, she was made a fellow at Brown University’s Information Futures Lab to develop interventions for combating misinformation. In 2024, she won the Georgina Henry Prize and a winning place on the ICFJ Disarming Disinformation Solutions Challenge grant to create Sophiana, an AI-enabled app that helps journalists translate their written reporting into video scripts in Sophia’s style. Sophiana is now used in more than 100 countries, and has generated thousands of scripts for journalists and non-profit workers. In 2026, Sophia is one of 24 journalists worldwide selected to be part of CUNY’s AI Journalism Builders Lab in New York.

Beyond her own content, Sophia has been involved in content and company transformation around the world. She was a member of TikTok’s first UK Creator Council and today lists advisory roles at the Public Interest News Foundation, the National Gallery and Synthesia. She is a member of the Future Insights Board at Mediahuis, the European media group with more than 30 news brands, and in 2025 she founded Viralect, a social media consultancy and innovation hub for factual storytelling.
